Spanish is spoken by more than 400 million people worldwide, 40 million of them in the United States. In today’s increasingly interconnected world, a major or minor in Spanish is a valuable supplement to any degree program, opening doors personally and professionally to students. Proficiency in Spanish and familiarity with Hispanic cultures enhance students’ opportunities for travel and study abroad, strengthen their preparation for graduate school, and expand their career options. There are many reasons to study Spanish.
This program develops speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills in Spanish and a greater understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures.

Spanish Minor Requirements
Complete all lower-division course work (all 1000- and 2000-level classes) or its equivalent in Spanish, followed by 6 hours of upper-division credit in courses taught in Spanish (make sure you've taken the right prerequisites before enrolling in the upper-division courses). You will need a GPA of 2.5 in Spanish with no grade below “C” in all upper-division Spanish courses to receive the minor.
Here is the sequence for the minor:
Span 1713 (textbook: Vistas)
Span 1813 (textbook: Vistas)
Span 2713 (textbook: Vistas) & Span 2723. These may be taken concurrently or sequentially.
Span 2813 & Span 2823. These may be taken concurrently or sequentially.
Any two courses at the 3000 or 4000 levels will complete the 6-hour upper division requirements for the Minor in Spanish. Before taking any 4000 level course, students must fulfill the 3000 level prerequisite for that course. See the course catalog.
